Finding your first women’s group ride in San Diego

A club is in the list for one of two reasons: it’s set up as a women’s club, or it’s a mixed club with a women-only ride coming up. For those mixed clubs, the date shown is that women-only ride. Every club writes its own description, so check the pace and terrain, open the ride page for the start point, and ask the organizers anything in the app first.

Where to ride on your own first

The Bayshore Bikeway loops about 24 miles around San Diego Bay through Coronado, the Silver Strand, Imperial Beach and Chula Vista, most of it away from traffic. Fiesta Island in Mission Bay has a flat perimeter road of roughly 4 miles with almost no cars, an easy spot to get used to riding in a bunch.

The coast route, County Route S21, runs about 25 miles from Torrey Pines up to Oceanside through Del Mar, Solana Beach, Cardiff and Encinitas. Apart from the Torrey Pines climb, it stays close to flat.

When a longer Saturday sounds good, the Swami’s ride out of Encinitas is the North County fixture. It’s about 40 miles and open to everyone rather than a club ride, so it’s worth knowing the coast route first. For a short, steady climb, Mt. Soledad in La Jolla rises 3.4 miles at about 4% to the veterans memorial above the Pacific.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find women's group rides in San Diego?

The list on this page shows the San Diego clubs that are women’s clubs or post women-only rides, with each one’s next ride date, start time and distance. It updates as clubs post rides, and you can message the organizers in the app before you go.

What does a “women only” ride mean on RiderFinder?

It’s a ride the organizing club has marked as open to women only. Women’s clubs show here with all their rides; mixed clubs show because of a women-only ride, and the date shown for them is that ride. Each club’s description says who else it welcomes.

Where can I ride on my own in San Diego before a women's group ride?

Start with the Bayshore Bikeway, a flat, mostly car-free loop of about 24 miles around San Diego Bay through Coronado, the Silver Strand, Imperial Beach and Chula Vista. Fiesta Island in Mission Bay has a 4-mile perimeter road with almost no traffic. Both are good for building fitness and bike handling.

How do clubs end up on this page?

A club shows up when it’s set up as a women’s club or has a women-only ride in the next 30 days. Clubs are never added because of their name, so every club here chose the women-only setting itself.
