Women's cycling clubs & women-only rides in San Francisco

Women's cycling clubs and women-only rides in San Francisco, from flat laps of Golden Gate Park to the climb up Hawk Hill in the Marin Headlands.

San Francisco’s hills get the attention, but its calmest miles are flat: JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park and the waterfront out to Crissy Field. Here are the clubs around the city that run as women’s clubs or post women-only rides.

Finding your first women’s group ride in San Francisco

Clubs reach the list two ways: as a women’s club, or as a mixed club with a women-only ride on its calendar. The date next to a mixed club is that women-only ride. Read the club’s description for pace and style, open the ride page for the meeting point, and message the organizers in the app if anything’s unclear.

Where to ride on your own first

Start in Golden Gate Park: the stretch of JFK Drive now called JFK Promenade has been car-free since 2022, and it’s flat. The waterfront from the Embarcadero past the Marina Green and Crissy Field is another easy, mostly level spin. To link downtown to the park without the hills, the Wiggle is about a mile of signed streets where the grade never tops roughly 6%.

When you’re ready for the city’s classic ride, most groups cross the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin. Bikes use the bridge sidewalks toll-free, and just past the north end, Hawk Hill climbs 1.8 miles and about 540 feet on Conzelman Road for the view back over the bridge. Many rides carry on through Sausalito to the Paradise Loop, about 11 miles around the Tiburon peninsula, then take the ferry back to the city.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find women's group rides in San Francisco?

The list on this page shows the San Francisco clubs that are women’s clubs or post women-only rides, with each one’s next ride date, start time and distance. It updates as clubs post rides, and you can message the organizers in the app before you go.

What does a “women only” ride mean on RiderFinder?

It’s a ride the organizing club has marked as open to women only. Women’s clubs show here with all their rides; mixed clubs show because of a women-only ride, and the date shown for them is that ride. Each club’s description says who else it welcomes.

Where can I ride on my own in San Francisco before a women's group ride?

Golden Gate Park is the flattest riding in the city: the stretch of JFK Drive now called JFK Promenade has been car-free since 2022. The waterfront from the Embarcadero past the Marina Green and Crissy Field is another level, mostly car-free option, and the Wiggle links Market Street to the Panhandle in about a mile of signed streets with no steep grade.

How do clubs end up on this page?

A club shows up when it’s set up as a women’s club or has a women-only ride in the next 30 days. Clubs are never added because of their name, so every club here chose the women-only setting itself.
