Women's cycling clubs & women-only rides in the South Bay

Women's cycling clubs and women-only rides in the South Bay, from easy miles on the Strand to the climbs of the Palos Verdes loop.

South Bay riding has two sides: the flat Strand along the sand, and the climbs of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Here are the clubs from the beach cities to Torrance and Palos Verdes that run as women’s clubs or post women-only rides.

Finding your first women’s group ride in the South Bay

A club lands in the list either as a women’s club or because it has a women-only ride coming up soon. The date next to a mixed club is that women-only ride. Read how each club rides in its own words, open the ride page for the start city, and message the organizers in the app before you head out.

Where to ride on your own first

The gentlest place to start is the coast. The Strand is the Hermosa Beach stretch of the Marvin Braude beach path, which ends at Torrance County Beach. It’s flat and shared with people walking, so riders use it to warm up or roll over to a start.

From the beach cities you can build toward the big local ride, a lap of the Palos Verdes Peninsula on Palos Verdes Drive: about 24 miles with roughly 1,800 feet of climbing. The main climb, Palos Verdes Drive up to Crest Road, is about 5.1 miles at a 4.4% average. For a shorter effort, Via del Monte in Palos Verdes Estates climbs about 576 feet in 1.9 miles.

The open Donut Ride has circled the peninsula every Saturday morning since at least the 1980s, so learn the loop and its climbs before you join a bunch there.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find women's group rides in the South Bay?

The list on this page shows the South Bay clubs, from Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo beaches to Torrance and Palos Verdes, that are women’s clubs or post women-only rides, with each one’s next ride date, start time and distance. It updates as clubs post rides, and you can message the organizers in the app before you go.

It’s a ride the organizing club has marked as open to women only. Women’s clubs show here with all their rides; mixed clubs show because of a women-only ride, and the date shown for them is that ride. Each club’s description says who else it welcomes.

Where can I ride on my own in the South Bay before a women's group ride?

The Strand, the Hermosa Beach stretch of the Marvin Braude beach path, which ends at Torrance County Beach. It’s flat and shared with people walking, so riders use it to warm up or roll between the beach cities before taking on the Palos Verdes climbs.

How do clubs end up on this page?

A club shows up when it’s set up as a women’s club or has a women-only ride in the next 30 days. Clubs are never added because of their name, so every club here chose the women-only setting itself.
