Beach bike path winding across the sand in Santa Monica

Santa Monica & Westside cycling clubs

Cycling clubs in Santa Monica, Venice and the Westside, with group rides into the Malibu canyons and along the beach path.

From Santa Monica, Venice or Westwood, rides head one of two ways. Either north into the Santa Monica Mountains for canyon climbs like Latigo Canyon and Piuma Road, or along the coast on the Marvin Braude Bike Trail (the beach path), which starts at Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades.

Where to climb

Westside riders head up the coast on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) toward Malibu and into the Santa Monica Mountains. Latigo Canyon and Piuma Road are the long canyon climbs, and Mulholland Highway rolls west through the mountains toward the Rock Store in Cornell. Closer to home, Mandeville Canyon Road climbs north from Sunset Boulevard in Brentwood.

Trails after the Palisades Fire

The January 2025 Palisades Fire burned the hills above Pacific Palisades. As of July 2026, parts of Topanga State Park, including the Rogers Road, Rustic Canyon and Temescal Canyon trails, were still closed, so check California State Parks and Santa Monica Mountains closure notices before a dirt ride.

The beach path

For flat, car-free miles, the Marvin Braude Bike Trail runs about 22 miles from Will Rogers State Beach south through Santa Monica and Venice to Torrance County Beach. It’s shared with people walking and skating, so Westside riders use it for easy spins or to get to a ride start. The LA28 Olympic road races are scheduled to start on this stretch of coast, at the Venice Beach Boardwalk, on July 22–23, 2028.
