Pasadena cycling clubs & group rides

Cycling clubs in Pasadena and La Cañada Flintridge: Rose Bowl Loop group rides, the 18.5-mile Angeles Crest climb, and each club's next ride.

Pasadena riding comes down to two places. There’s the Rose Bowl Loop, a car-free 3.1–3.3-mile loop in the Arroyo Seco, and there’s Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2), which climbs about 4,600 feet in 18.5 miles from La Cañada Flintridge to Mt. Wilson. Most clubs here use one or the other.

Laps at the Rose Bowl

The Rose Bowl Loop circles the stadium and Brookside Golf Course. It’s flat, closed to vehicle traffic and shared with walkers, so it’s where Pasadena riders do steady laps any day of the week. On Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from about mid-March until the clocks change in November, the Rose Bowl ride rolls at 5:55 pm and laps the loop about ten times, as it has for more than 40 years.

Up Angeles Crest

The long climb starts in La Cañada Flintridge. Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2) climbs into the San Gabriel Mountains to Red Box, where you turn onto Mt. Wilson Red Box Road for the last stretch to the summit at about 5,700 feet: roughly 18.5 miles and 4,600 feet in total. Sections of CA-2 close after storms and fires, so check Caltrans QuickMap before you head up.

What about the dirt?

The trails above Altadena are a different story. After the January 2025 Eaton Fire, a U.S. Forest Service order keeps the lower Mt. Wilson Toll Road and the Sam Merrill, Echo Mountain, Castle Canyon and Mount Lowe trails closed through December 31, 2027. Check Angeles National Forest alerts before planning a dirt ride from Altadena.
